During the night of October 4–5, aircraft movements at Vilnius Airport were temporarily suspended and the airspace was closed. According to representatives of Lithuanian Airports, at around 22:16 a report was received about a possible series of air balloons flying in the direction of Vilnius Airport. In order to ensure flight safety, a decision was made to implement temporary restrictions. The airspace was reopened early Sunday morning, at around 04:50.
As a result of these temporary restrictions, both arriving and departing flights were affected – some of them were cancelled. In total, approximately 30 flights and nearly 6,000 passengers were impacted.
Throughout the day, individual flight delays may still occur due to disrupted crew and aircraft rotations.
Passengers whose flights were cancelled are advised not to travel to the airport and to contact their airlines directly for alternative travel arrangements and further information.
Airlines are required to provide passengers with all necessary information regarding further steps and available flight alternatives.
