SeaCube Containers LLC and Carrier Transcold have announced a strategic refrigerated asset management systems platform engagement.

The engagement will see SeaCube become the first intermodal equipment leasing company to incorporate Carrier’s Lynx Fleet solution into its fleet with an initial deployment of 2,000 PrimeLINE refrigerated container units.

The Lynx Fleet solution includes proprietary technology that monitors reefer unit performance and provides early warning actionable diagnostics and predictive analytics down to the level of the machine’s components. The Carrier Lynx Fleet system will provide much more detailed machine performance analysis capabilities compared to other telematics platforms on the market by using integrated sensor machine data feeds.

“This is an exciting step forward for SeaCube as we move toward realizing our vision of telematics as a standard within our reefer fleet,” said Bob Sappio, chief executive officer of SeaCube. “We are confident that the Lynx Fleet offerings will help drive improvements in our own operating metrics and resonate with our customers to help them achieve optimal reefer performance and act on data-driven insights.”

Kartik Kumar, vice president and general manager of global container refrigeration at Carrier Transicold, said: “We are confident that Lynx Fleet will enhance connectivity across the cold chain, increasing visibility, providing predictive analytics and driving faster data-driven decisions.”

Lynx Fleet will offer prognostics and data analytics with features that provide differentiation such as improved fleet uptime through health analytics and prognostics using Carrier-unique features and reduced operational costs and maintenance and repair expenses as a result of optimised performance. It can also provide incremental value through lower cargo spoilage and possible reduced insurance costs.

The Lynx digital platform applies advanced internet of things (IoT) analytics, machine learning and various big data technologies to connect the cold chain in the cloud, automate key processes and deliver real-time visibility and insights throughout the cargo’s journey.

Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) has the launched a remote reefer container monitoring system, establishing 24/7 remote management of refrigerated containers.

The initiative allows greater visibility and accuracy on container conditions such as temperature, humidity and CO2 level, aiming to enhance the terminals’ operational efficiency and occupational safety, enabling it to capture growing business opportunities in the cold chain logistics market.

According to MarketandMarkets.com, the global cold chain market size is valued at US$233.8 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach US$ 340.3 billion by 2025, with a CAGR of 7.8%. The Asia-Pacific region is projected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period.

“To stay ahead of the ever-changing market landscape, HIT has long been investing resources in bolstering its competitiveness through technological innovation, operational excellence and facilities improvement,” said Leonard Fung, managing director of HIT. “The launch of the remote reefer container monitoring system is itself a cornerstone signifying the importance of digitalising terminal operations. This will go a long way in enhancing the holistic operational efficiency and competitiveness of our terminals while reaffirming the city’s leading status in the cold chain logistics industry.”

The syste has been fully deployed at HIT, COSCO-HIT and ACT, prior to this, reefer workers would have to go on-site to check reefer conditions and alarms regularly. The implementation of the system has not only saved reefer workers’ time on physical yard inspection, but also improved occupational safety.
